Mock Job Interview

  • What are your strengths?

My greatest strength is my natural leadership skills. Leadership is a hard skill to teach but to me it comes naturally. I have always had a keen ability to see the big picture and come up with a scheme to get there. This has helped me assemble winning teams and lead them down the right path. My leadership skills start with my confidence and work ethic. I truly believe I can do anything, knowing that I have the work ethic to get me there. My confidence and work ethic are conveyed to those around me, especially when I take on leadership roles. I also place a high value on integrity and accountability, I always pull my weight and try my hardest, this helps to inspire those around me to try harder. One of the most important leadership skills I exhibit is effective communication. Through my communication I am able to be an inspiration as well as keep things operating smoothly. And lastly, I exhibit great listening and empathy skills. This allows me help them and keep pushing forward. A team is only as good as the weakest link and a leader only knows how to improve the weakest link if they listen.

  • What are your weaknesses?

While I am highly confident in myself and my abilities I know there are areas where I need to improve. My biggest weakness is that I have the tendency to become a workaholic. With my strenuous class load, my construction job, and my car detailing business it is important that I manage my time well and stay on top of my work. That being said often times I get caught up in my work and miss opportunities and little moments in life. I am working to balance my life more and create more time for relationships and personal time away from the monotony of work and school.

  • Why do you want this Job?

I want to use my knowledge of technical aspects to help our country grow into a more efficient and cleaner place. This starts in our industries. I am going to school for electrical engineering and computer science. With this I want to help automate our industries. This will provide a safer, cleaner and more efficient environment for workers as well as open up thousands of new technical job opportunities while minimizing low paying, dangerous manual labor jobs.

  • Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

In ten years, I see myself being a millionaire with multiple successful businesses. I know this sounds cliché and every young person tends to think this but the difference is my drive to succeed at all cost. I know what it’s like to have nothing and I am bound and determined to create financial wealth so I can give back and improve the lives of others. I’m going into the electrical engineering field with plans to double major in project management as well as get my master’s in business administration. With this education I will be able to land an engineering manager position and from there I plan to open my own engineering firm. Once I begin to generate financial wealth I plan to branch out and use my construction knowledge to start a construction company and begin buying and developing real estate as well as buying/starting businesses and developing them. The end goal is to be able to use my wealth and resources to inspire and help others.

  • Who do you look up to the most?

I admire my boss more than anyone else in this world. From the age of fifteen I have been working for RA Building and Design. Rick took me under his wing and taught me everything I know about the construction industry. Rick has had a long and hard journey, from Vietnam to forty years of construction, but his work ethic and drive to succeed has always brought him through. This inspires me to push harder in my own life. The thing that inspires me the most about Rick is his compassion for those around him. He would give the shirt off his back to anyone weather or not they had anything to offer in return. He always lends a helping hand to his employees and members of the community who need help. This has helped inspire me to want to create my own wealth to be able to give back and help those around me.

  • How have you given back to your community?

My educational journey has been much different than most high schoolers. Attending iLead has given me the opportunity to give back to the school that has done so much for me. I have spent countless hours after school helping the engineering teacher building things for around the school and helping get things set up for classes. It’s the small things that I do around iLead that make a difference, like staying late to help clean the workshop and using my mechanical abilities to fix broken tools and equipment. I have also used my construction connections to help bring in supplies for class activities. I have also helped develop the robotics program by building a practice platform for our VEX teams and showing students how to code robots. Due to iLead’s size and few staff members my leadership abilities and trustworthiness are often called upon by the director to help lead groups and students in the right direction. iLead Academy gets a lot of attention from employers and Kentucky leaders such as DOW Chemical and Congressman Massey. I’m often asked to be the face of the student body, giving tours and showcasing what our students are capable of while these opportunities often wreck my schedule I love helping make a great impression for the school as well as making great connections. I have over seventy documented community service hours for the school and countless more undocumented. I absolutely love iLead and everything it has done for me so I’m eager to give back any chance I get.

Going beyond school I will highlight two more things that I have done around the community to help give back. In 2018 I helped run a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fair for a local elementary school in Carrollton. I absolutely love working with kids and I was thrilled to use my science and engineering skills to inspire the next generation to follow my journey into the STEM field. I was also asked to help rebuild Camp KYSOC, a rundown special needs camp in Carrollton. I used my carpentry skills (and tools) to help refurbish the boat that was used to take the handicap children out into the lake. This was a great experience, which ended with me getting to meet governor Bevin when Camp KYSOC was given an award for improving the park.  Being able to use my skills to give back to the community makes all the hard work worthwhile.
