Individual Service Project

This year I was asked to help restore camp KYSOC in Carrollton Kentucky. This is a beautiful piece of land that was once home to the first disabilities camp in Kentucky. I was able to use my carpentry skills to restore Mathilda, a pontoon boat used to take handicap children out on the lake. I tore out and replaced the rotting floor, fixed a busted support beam and replaced the transom. In the spring I plan to help the park again by putting a fresh pain job on the boat. It was an amazing opportunity to get to use my skills to help restore an amazing piece of history, especially knowing what that park meant to so many children. On October 10th the opportunity was made even more special when I met Governor Bevin in person when he came to award the park with the Beautify the Bluegrass Award.

Service Fundraiser

I am president of iLead’s National Honors Society and part of our goal s to go above and beyond to help an organization in the community. This year we decided to partner with a local church to help them with their operation shoe box. My fellow officers and I organized a game night at the school. We ran a concession stand and took admission at the door and raised money to pay for supplies and the shipping of the shoe boxes. I also spent hours after class wrapping shoe boxes to be filled with supplies. This was a great experience to build a community partner with iLead but to also help with a great cause.
